Annual Kernville Trip

On Tuesday we packed up the car, (boy did we miss the truck) and headed to Kernville and Lake Isabella. (Jim's brother and his wife live there) We go every year and the kids can't wait to go. Jim and his family used to live there many years ago. So we have to endure all the old stories that Jim tells when we get into town. But the kids don't seem to mind. We usually stay at this lodge that is up river, but we didn't make reservations in time. So we settled for another lodge. This one was a little more rustic!?!. The maintenance man stayed in the room next to us,( he was a little shadey looking) needless to say Kaycee and Matt were never out of our sight. We still seemed to enjoy ourselves. Matt couldn't wait to get out on the river and fish for trout. One night we had to drag him in, it was so dark he couldn't even see!!! He also managed to get up at 6:oo a.m. every morning to hit the river! So much for my sleeping in on my vacation!!!

Wednesday Jim's brother and wife had the day off so they took us out on their boat for some fun fishing and swimming.

On Thursday we decided to go up river and find a nice quiet place to swim, fish and just relax.

Here I am getting sunburned!!
Matt thought he could catch trout with a net instead of a fishing pole. Unfortunately this didn't work real well!!

On Friday we rented a pontoon boat and went fishing and swimming. The lake looks green because in the heat the the bacteria comes up from the bottom. I was told that the lake was "turning over" I'm not sure that I believe that or not, but we all went swimming and nobody got sick. We all caught fish. The kids got a kick out of driving the boat (even though they weren't old enough. You know the Smith's break all the rules). After fishing we went to the park where the river runs by and I snoozed under the trees while the kids river rafted. (under Jim's watchful eye)

Looks like a great trip, love when the boys have so much fun you have to drag them in from the dark to go to bed.

What a fun trip! The fishing talent also comes from the Davis side you know. :)

I saw your comment on Kristin's blog, so here are some recommendations for you. The author of the Twilight series is Stephenie Meyers, a BYU alum. They are fun reads. One of my other favorite authors is Janet Evanovich (the Stephanie Plum series is laugh out loud fun and quick). I also enjoy Maeve Binchy for just really pleasant storytelling. And one of my favorite reads this year was "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield. And I also really loved "Girl in Hyacinth Blue" by Susan Vreeland.

Hope that keeps you busy for a while! :)

Wow, looks like you guys had a fun trip. There's nothing like playing in the water and fishing for some good ol' wholesome fun!
